Why the First 1,001 Days Matter: More2Nurseries Supports a Historic Step for Babies and Families
| Kelly Salambasis
The UK could soon become the first country in the world to legislate specifically for babies during the first 1,001 days of life.
The proposed Infants, Parents and Carers Bill would place a legal duty on Government to assess the needs of babies and families from pregnancy until a child turns two, provide appropriate support services, and report annually on outcomes.
At More2Nurseries, this recognition of the importance of the earliest years strongly reflects what we see every day in practice.
What are the first 1,001 days?
The first 1,001 days span from pregnancy until a child's second birthday. During this period, babies experience rapid brain development, build relationships and attachments, develop their immune systems and establish the foundations for future learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
Research consistently shows that positive experiences during these early years can have a lifelong impact.
Bringing the message to life at More2Nurseries
To mark Infant Wellbeing Week, children from our Greenwich and Kidbrooke nurseries took part in a special 1,001 metre sponsored walk in support of MumsAid.
More than 150 children were joined by staff, volunteers and family members, with over 200 people taking part altogether.
The walk symbolised the first 1,001 days and celebrated the Five Ways to Wellbeing:
- Connect
- Be Active
- Take Notice
- Keep Learning
- Give
Children proudly completed the challenge, receiving cheers, bubbles and medals at the finish line.
Supporting families beyond the nursery gates
As an independent nursery group, More2Nurseries understands that supporting children means supporting families too.
Our partnership with MumsAid reflects our commitment to promoting parental wellbeing and recognising the important role that secure relationships, emotional health and community support play in children's development.
Whether this proposed legislation becomes law or not, we believe the conversation it has started is incredibly important.
Every baby deserves the best possible start in life.
Every family deserves access to support.
And every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.
At More2Nurseries, our Greenwich Nursery and Kidbrooke Nursery teams remain committed to creating nurturing environments where children can build confidence, develop healthy habits and flourish during these precious early years.
Because the first 1,001 days really do matter.
