How We Approach Technology at More2 Nursery in Greenwich
| Kelly Salambasis
At More2 Nurseries in Greenwich, we believe in embracing the future without losing sight of what childhood really means. Technology is all around us — and it plays an important role in the STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths). But how we introduce technology to young children makes all the difference.
That’s why at More2, Technology is the “T” in STEAM, but not in the way you might expect.
We don’t sit children in front of iPads or TVs. We know they may get plenty of opportunities to explore these outside of nursery. Instead, we use real-world technology tools in imaginative, hands-on ways to support language, play, and creativity. Think real keyboards, cameras, laptops, and even remote controls — none of which are connected to screens. These tools are used purely for pretend play and to spark curiosity.
Some of the hands-on tech experiences our children enjoy include:
- Meccano robot kits for fine motor skills and engineering thinking
- Light-up busy boards to explore cause and effect
- Vocab card readers to boost communication and understanding
- Talking mats and talking buttons to support emotional literacy
- Blenders for making real milkshakes during snack prep
- Tonie boxes for independent storytelling and music exploration
- Microscopes for looking closer at the world around us
By blending imaginative play with real technology, we build confidence, critical thinking, and a love of learning — without screen overload.
Supporting Online Safety from the Start
As we introduce young children to the concept of technology, we also believe in starting the conversation around online safety — in an age-appropriate way. For families with young children, we recommend the helpful Internet Matters guide for under 5s for tips on safe technology use at home.
At More2, our goal is to nurture curious, capable children ready for a tech-driven future — but grounded in real-world, imaginative experiences.
